Wow, just on RNZ now ConsumerNZ are (finally!) saying that using POLi for payments in NZ is putting people at risk, breaching bank terms and voiding protections. Holy cow. No duh!
I tried to take this issue to my bank (Kiwibank), who sent me to the banking ombudsman and from there to ConsumerNZ a few years ago. Nobody wanted to know. They all threw up their hands... and now suddenly they're making a fuss about it. Wonder what's suddenly changed?

Just had to redo the setup from scratch on my Bank app on my iphone and that was a right old pain. No idea why but then i got an email from the bank stating - "Thank you for setting up the Mobile Banking app on your iPhone XS Max Global."

If copyright is real then the AI machines owe the artists of humankind (which is to say all of us) more money than exists in the banking systems of the planet.
If copyright is not real then the companies that trained those models have no right to exclusive ownership of the weights.
I bet somehow the law conspires to make it the worst of either option.

On the Instability of Fractional Reserve Banking
This paper develops a dynamic monetary model to study the (in)stability of the fractional reserve banking system. The model shows that the fractional reserve banking system can endanger stability in that equilibrium is more prone to exhibit endogenous cyclic, chaotic, and stochastic dynamics under lower reserve requirements, although it can increase consumption in the steady-state.
